We’d been hearing that NVIDIA’s Fermi chips had been delayed, but they’re apparently far enough along for spokesperson Brian Burke to tweet this image of the new Fermi-based GeForce 100 GPU running the Unigine Heaven DX11 benchmark earlier today. That’s certainly one way to hit back at ATI’s launch of the fastest graphics card ever, the Radeon HD 5970, but we’d much rather have some hard info to work with. We’ve pinged NVIDIA, we’ll let you know if we hear anything.

Although we were too late to verify for ourselves, both Joystiq and Scrawl swear up and down that the above three images, each of whom unfortunately lack a higher-res version, all hail from the official Sony Computer Entertainment Europe website, and each showing a feature of the PlayStation 3’s XMB we haven’t seen before: some form of Facebook integration, the ability to change gamercard colors, and a new method of photo organization / perusal. None of these would be too surprising or earth-shattering, really, and the juiciest question of them all — exactly when we might see these additions — is still a mystery. Too broke to pay Tony Hawk’s royalties on a Wii skateboard / snowboard? Yeah, we feel you, and evidently Thrustmaster does too. Said peripheral outfit has just introduced its newest Wii accessory, the T-Freestyle NW. Designed with work with any skate or snowboard game that lands on Nintendo’s money-maker, the board is crafted from genuine maple and sports a totally stereotypical “skull” design on the top. There’s also a safety stopper to prevent any sort of toppling disaster, and best of all, this thing will be available at the end of the month for just $29.99. Gnarly, dude.

It’s not quite a $99 Xbox 360, but if this apparent Walmart scan via Kotaku is to be believed, that $199 Arcade version is getting a $100 gift card promotion going into effect this Saturday. In real terms, that boils down to a $234 Xbox 360 Pro for first-time buyers, seeing as you’ll be needing that $135, 120GB hard drive, too. Also listed are a Sony Blu-ray player for $148 (we’re guessing the currently-MSRP’d $199 BDP-S360), and a $298 HP G60-519WM, which touts a 2.2GHz Intel Celeron, 15.6-inch HD display, Windows 7 Home Premium, 3GB RAM, and a 250GB HDD — not a bad followup at all for that Compaq CQ60. Some interesting spy shots from the Slick Deals forum seem to give credence to the scan, although we’re still playing wait-and-see — that $100 gift card with the Xbox 360 arcade is almost too good to be true, even if it is just a clever tactic to clear shelf space in the lead-up to Black Friday.

You know, we’ve been pretty skeptical about the whole “fit” part of the “Wii Fit” phenomenon, and for good reason: as studies have shown, the health benefits of gaming, whether you’re sitting, standing, or faux-bowling, are minimal at best. Still, for a number of consumers at home and abroad, the game conjures up notions of leading an active lifestyle. So perhaps it is no surprise, as the Telegraph reports, that Britain’s National Health Service is using it to promote its Change4Life initiative — even going so far as to allow the company to append the Change4Life logo on its upcoming Wii Fit Plus release. And how about those who cry foul — specifically, those who point out that the deal includes Nintendo shelling out money to help promote the NHS-funded program. See how one might get the idea that this is a “pay to play” affair? To the government’s credit, it does stress that it’s endorsing an exercise, not a video game system. “Active video games, where kids need to jump up and down or dance about as part of the game, are a great way to get kids moving,” a spokesperson said. Rob Saunders, the British spokesman for Nintendo, had this to say: “If you are worried about your bingo wings or your flabby bum, the game will give you specific exercises to target those areas.” Bingo wings? Flabby bums? Why didn’t you say so in the first place?

But if you’ve always dreamed of writing the next great first-person shooter for a retired game platform you’re in luck: the Quickdev 16 is a cartridge that includes everything necessary for bringing your creations to the Super Nintendo, including the Atmel AVR ATmega644 with boot loader, USB connection for placing your code on the cart, 16 megabits of SRAM, and an RS232 converter for a debugging terminal. There ain’t much to glean from Shigeru Miyamoto’s recent sit-down with Popular Mechanics, but in the never-ending quest to learn more about Nintendo’s next-generation Wii, a few tidbits of interest have been highlighted. Miyamoto, who is responsible for creating the likes of Mario and Zelda (amongst others), spoke at length about current titles, the future of video games as a whole and on his view of the not-yet-named Wii 2. In answering a question about the future of motion-sensing in the Big N’s consoles, he ran off topic a bit and noted that “it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient” when speaking about future hardware (which honestly may have been talking strictly about accelerometers). Of course, this is about as predictable as it gets — hardware tends to always shrink and get cheaper as technology improves — but hey, there it is! Now, let your imaginations do what they were born to do.

Looks like our old friend, Matthias — the developer of the USB SNES cart reader — is back on the scene, and this time he’s going commercial. His newest project, Snega2USB, adds Sega Genesis, read and write for battery-backed SNES games, open source firmware, and up to four gamepads to the homebrew fave of classic gaming fanatics world o’er. This is a work-in-progress, but all the pieces are in place to have all orders met on the December, 2009 street date. Pre-orders will be taken until October 31 for $90 in the United States or €75 in Europe. Video after the break.
